When hygiene is an obligation, not an option.
In industrial, food, pharmaceutical, and healthcare sectors, walls are not mere surfaces. They are the first line of defence against bacterial proliferation, cross-contamination, and regulatory non-compliance. An unsuitable coating can cost far more than a simple replacement: it can jeopardise a certification, or expose an establishment to sanctions during health inspections. Poor hygiene can encourage infections that, in the most serious cases, can endanger the lives of the most vulnerable individuals.
It is in this demanding context that Hygipanel developed its hygienic wall panels; a solution designed for over 30 years to meet the most stringent requirements, from slaughterhouses to pharmaceutical cleanrooms.
Hygipanel is a Belgian company specialising in the manufacture, development, and installation of polyester wall and ceiling coverings for over 30 years. Present in Belgium and France, it guarantees quality, safety, and transparency at every stage.
What is a hygienic wall panel?
A hygienic wall panel is a surface coating specifically designed for environments where cleanliness and resistance to biological and chemical agents are critical. Unlike tiling, paint, or simple PVC sheets, these panels meet precise technical requirements:
- Non-porous surface preventing the adhesion of bacteria and biofilms
- Resistance to aggressive chemicals used during high-frequency cleaning
- No joints where micro-organisms could accumulate
- Compliance with sanitary standards in force in regulated sectors
Hygipanel panels are manufactured from polyester resin reinforced with braided fibreglass (25%), coated with an isophthalic gel coat that gives them a smooth appearance. This composition offers exceptional resistance to impacts, moisture, acids, and bases; without deterioration over time.
Clean Active Technology: antibacterial protection built into the core of the material.
Clean Active is a chemical antibacterial technology whose effectiveness is guaranteed at 99.99% against the most common and dangerous pathogenic bacteria:
- Escherichia coli (ATCC 8739)
- Listeria monocytogenes (ATCC 15313)
- Salmonella enteritidis (ATCC 13076)
- Staphylococcus aureus MRSA (ATCC 33592)
- Enterococcus hirae (ATCC 8043)
Unlike a surface antibacterial coating that wears away with cleaning, Clean Active is incorporated into the body of the material. Its effectiveness does not diminish over time and requires no additional treatment.
Clean Active is not a surface treatment applied after manufacturing. It is a structural technology integrated during the manufacturing process, guaranteeing lasting action throughout the entire lifespan of the panel.
Application sectors: where Hygipanel makes the difference
Food industry
This is Hygipanel's primary sector. The constraints are numerous: caustic soda-laden vapours during tank cleaning, acid splashes from milk or blood in slaughterhouses, resistant biofilms in maturing areas. Traditional tiling and sandwich panels give way under these repeated aggressions, generating costly re-grouting and replacement campaigns.
Hygipanel sheets withstand all of these aggressions without degrading, while remaining compliant with HACCP and ISO 22000 standards; the two fundamental references of the food industry.
Collective catering and professional kitchens
Restaurants, school canteens, hospital kitchens: these environments combine permanent humidity, greasy splashes, and aggressive daily cleaning. Hygipanel panels can be installed directly over existing tiling (without removal), reducing costs and downtime; a decisive advantage for an establishment that cannot afford long interruptions.
Healthcare sector
In hospitals and clinics, wall hygiene is directly linked to infection risk. Flexible PVC coatings, still commonly used, show premature wear from contact with trolleys and operating theatre equipment, creating micro-catches where bacteria proliferate.
Hygipanel's bacteriostatic panels guarantee full compliance with HACCP, ISO 14644-1, and NF-S90-351 standards. With a maximum length of 6 metres, they drastically reduce the number of joints; and therefore risk zones.
Pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry
Pharmaceutical cleanrooms and cosmetic manufacturing areas require controlled environments from ISO Class 1 to 9. The slightest surface defect can cause product contamination with catastrophic consequences. Hygipanel meets ISO 14644-1 requirements and enables the necessary cleanliness levels to be achieved, thanks to its smooth, non-porous, and easily decontaminated surface.
Concrete advantages over traditional solutions
- 4 times faster to clean than tiling
- 10 times less porous than PVC, eliminating the risk of yellowing
- Installation without production interruption (glued directly onto existing substrate)
- Reduced thickness (2 or 3 mm), minimising loss of usable space
- Fire-resistant version available (M1 fire reaction rating, CFC-free)
- Available in lengths from 200 to 600 cm to minimise joints
- Significantly longer service life than traditional solutions
Investing in compliance means investing in performance
Choosing a hygienic wall coating is not an expense but an investment in regulatory compliance, reduced maintenance costs, and protection of your establishment's reputation.
Hygipanel offers a complete solution: custom manufacturing, installation accessories (junction profiles, skirting boards, corner trims), and installation by an in-house team or a network of approved installers in Belgium and France.
